Lightning Never Strikes Twice Writing

Example

Lightning never strikes twice, does it?
That was the question that occupied their frightened minds as they crouched, huddling together, next the pile of dusty sacks in the base of the windmill…
Could you write a short paragraph describing what it would be like to be caught in a storm, using some of your ideas from above?

When it became night the lightning hit the ground like a meteorite crashing. The lightning sounded like a ferocious lion roaring. The building wasn’t doing but suddenly it started to creak. The moon was trying to shine through the thick black clouds until the lightning struck and pushed the clouds in front of the bright shiny moon. The sky was as black as my room at night. Ka Boom!! The thunder sounded like a freight train going down the track. The fat lady on the other side of the paddock. I sat down to brush my muddled up hair when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, another windmill across from me about 200 metres away with a figure of a boy in it. The lighting had finished but the crashing of the thunder hadn’t. About 6.00 AM the thunder suddenly stopped and the whole place looked like a complete mess same with the other windmill. I was so scared but now it's over I am glad.

Piwakawaka Information Report

Rendered Image
What does it look like?
A Fantail is a bird that is different from most other NZ birds.
A Fantail has a tail on its rear end that looks like a fan.
The Piwakawaka colors are brown, green, black and white.

Where does it live?
A Piwakawaka is mainly found in rainforests, deserts and urban rainforests.
The reason why they can survive in these types of areas is that they have a special blubber to keep them warm.

Where their habitat/location is?
Piwakawaka mainly lives between Northland and the Chatham Islands.
They are found throughout all of New Zealand. You can only find Fantails in New Zealand, that means they are endemic.

What does it eat and how does it get its food?
Fantails (piwakawaka) like to eat moths, flies, beetles and spiders.
Most of the time they hop around upside-down amongst tree ferns and foliage to pick insects from the underside of leaves.
They also follow us because our footsteps disturb the insects that they like to eat.

Where do they breed? Who looks after the young?
How long do the babies get looked after for?
The Fantails (piwakawaka) breed in the North Island.
The female Fantail (piwakawaka) looks after the young really carefully.
Both adults take care of them for about 14 days.
They mainly make their nests in a cup-shaped nest and often near water.
Within 1 breeding season they can have up to 5 sets of eggs.
After about 2 and a half weeks the chicks fledge (their first flight) the nest.

Social Behaviour
Fantails (piwakawaka) often approach us very closely so people think they are naturally friendly.
Fantails (piwakawaka) can be found in groups but sometimes on their own.

Threats
Fantails (piwakawaka) threats are humans, ferrets, stoats, and possums. Male Fantails protect their territory.
The females protect the babies by trying to trick the predators by leading the predators away from the nest and pretending to be injured.
Some Fantail (piwakawaka) man-made threats are 1080 and plastic. 1080 can kill Fantails and they try to eat plastic.

My Planet Writing

Create and Describe Your Own Planet -
Description writing task
Term 2 Weeks 5-6

Purpose of this piece of writing is to:

Learning Intentions
I am learning to use language features to make my writing interesting and engaging for the reader.
I am learning to use topic-specific vocabulary.
I am learning to include Te Reo Māori words in my writing.

I will be successful when I can show….
-I have used some language features to make my writing interesting and engaging (simile, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme)
-I have carefully chosen some topic specific words to include in my writing.
-I have used some Te Reo Māori

Focus

We are continuing to look at descriptive writing.
This week you are writing a descriptive piece of writing to promote your imaginary planet.
You aim is to convince people to move to your planet.
You
want your writing to allow the reader to be able to imagine what it is like on your planet.

First, we will look at an excerpt of a video describing the moon from the Avatar movie.
Click here to get to video= Pandora.

Second,
we will discuss together what you will need in your work to make it successful and look at
how to plan our work.
Then you will plan your work and check with a teacher before you start writing.

Third, do your piece of writing.

Fourth, complete you piece of writing. Remember to proofread (check spelling and punctuation) and edit
(does it make sense? do you need to change any sentences?)
yourself and with a buddy and fill in your self and peer-assessment.
Check it with a teacher.

Earthoropis

100 million light years away from Earth there is a planet called Eathoropis in a galaxy called The Tree Trunk Star Galaxy.

There are many different types of creatures and aliens on my planet and also lots of friendly mutants. They also have different types of names for each creature.

You can only get there by a magical flying bus that can teleport to other dimensions. There is only five of these buses in the whole entire universe. You will be lucky to get to look at this planet.

My whole planet is basically huge cities like Tilted Towers and many other big cities.

If you do make it there you will be totally safe because the atmosphere there is the exact same as  Ao (Earth). That's how all the humans and creatures survive on the planet.

The best part of me is my WaeWae because they help me to kick a ball, and help me to juggle a ball. They help me to achieve all the sports I can achieve. They cling onto my bike like pegs. My legs make me jump like a kangarū. They help me to run as fast as a Cheetah.  My legs are as flexible as a slippery slidey nākahi (snake). My WaeWae is the best part of me because they help me do the things I love doing.

2.Don't be a bully.

3.Help them when they hurt them self.

My goal this term is to make sure everyone is happy and friendly around the school.

Here is a story called: The bully, stand up

Once upon a time there was a bully around a big friendly school that he used to bully everyone.Until he got told to go to the principals office and had to go to detention. When he got out he was sad so this kid named Tyler came over and said do you want to be my friend because iv'e got no friends. After all that the bully had heaps of friends and he didn't bully anyone. The end

My reflection on this piece of writing is that I think I set my placement of writing and punctuation.

My favourite car

My favourite car is a Mustang gt.

Mustang gt's can come in all types of colours.

They can come with wings and without wings.

Mustang gt's can be modified and they can be original.

They can have a carbon fibre hood or just the original hood.

They can come with extended bumpers or just the original bumpers.

That is why this is my favourite car.
