Play Summary - Term 3 Weeks 1-2

For the next two weeks you are working in groups to practise and

perform a play.

This is using our oral language and reading skills in literacy.

Our key competency focus is participating and contributing.

For writing your task is to summarise the main events

in your play in three paragraphs.

You must plan your writing first but it is up to you how you

do your planning.  You must also write a fourth

paragraph about your experience of practising and

performing your play.

Yr 6

I am learning to organise my text into paragraphs which begin with a main idea

and contain supporting information/detail.

Yr 7

between paragraphs.

e.g. colons : and semi-colons ; , and parentheses ().

Maui and the Giant Ika

In the first part of this story Maui wanted to go fishing with his four

older brothers but they shouted at him,   “ NO! “

Maui was so angry he thought of a plan to trick his four brothers.

He made one of the toughest fishing lines to catch the best fish.

Maui woke up just before sunrise and hid at the bottom of the canoe.

When they were out at sea

Maui popped out of the bottom of the canoe and said, “ I’m Here! ”  

In the second part of this story Maui started saying the

karakia to call in the fish to them.

Maui started to sing the karakia,

“E te atua, homai ki a matou, tou maramatanga, tou rangimarie,

tou kaha me tou aroha, mo tenei ra, Amine.

” The Karakia worked and lots of fish started to come in.

At the end of this story , this giant fish came right underneath the canoe,

people call it the Giant Ika.

Maui shouted,

“ Stop it’s a gift from our grandmother, Muri-ranga-whenua!”  

Maui caught the fish and

the four older brothers started yelling and fighting over the Giant Ika.

At the end they stopped arguing and all went back to the island, and the

Giant Ika still lies where it is as the North Island.

When my group did our play we had to get all the props we needed from home and school. One thing we did really well was organizing all the props and masks.

One thing we really enjoyed was acting in the play.

As a team we helped each other if we got stuck on a line.

We participated and contributed by bringing props for our play from home.

One thing I would improve on next time would be to memorize my lines.

Cooking-Hamburgers-Mrs Gully's Last Day

Today was Mrs Gully's last day at our school, so we could choose what we could make. My group was Nathan K, Cailan and Ethan. Our objective was to use teamwork and responsibility because we were using hot pans and sharp knifes. We chose to make Hamburgers and they turned out really good.

Purpose of this reading activity is to: increase our knowledge of space
exploration and understand how our knowledge and ideas about space have
changed over time (science).

         I think Galileo Galilei made the biggest contribution to space because
he discovered a lot of amazing stuff about our solar system like all the moons
orbiting Jupiter, lunar craters and the different phases of Venus.
Also he did more discoveries in his life and he invented the first telescope.

helping us investigate space? Why? (summarising key ideas)
I think the International Space Station is the most important machine or
invention in helping us investigate space because it has discovered a lot of
new things in our solar system and it plays a big part on Earth because it finds
things on the Earth’s surface.

    3) What would you like to investigate about space? Why?
I would like to learn about black holes because I want to know if they actually
suck up solar systems and other types of stuff.

Cooking-Vegetable Soup & Cheese Scones

Today the year sixes made vegetable soup & cheese scones. My group was Nathan K, Nathanael & Rhys. Me & Nathan made the cheese scones, Nathanael & Rhys made the vegetable soup. Our objective was to use good teamwork & follow the instructions.

Focus

We are continuing to look at descriptive writing.
This week you are writing a descriptive piece of writing to promote your imaginary planet.
You aim is to convince people to move to your planet.
You
want your writing to allow the reader to be able to imagine what it is like on your planet.

First, we will look at an excerpt of a video describing the moon from the Avatar movie.

we will discuss together what you will need in your work to make it successful and look at
how to plan our work.
Then you will plan your work and check with a teacher before you start writing.

Third, do your piece of writing.

Earthoropis

100 million light years away from Earth there is a planet called Eathoropis in a galaxy called The Tree Trunk Star Galaxy.

There are many different types of creatures and aliens on my planet and also lots of friendly mutants. They also have different types of names for each creature.

You can only get there by a magical flying bus that can teleport to other dimensions. There is only five of these buses in the whole entire universe. You will be lucky to get to look at this planet.

My whole planet is basically huge cities like Tilted Towers and many other big cities.

If you do make it there you will be totally safe because the atmosphere there is the exact same as  Ao (Earth). That's how all the humans and creatures survive on the planet.
