Lake Daniell Recount

 Lake Daniell

The day before we left we had to learn about hypothermia and Leave No Trace, what I learnt about hypothermia is hypothermia is a extremely dangerous drop in body temperature, and that Leave No trace is to leave everything the way you left it so no  breaking the branches off of trees and no leaving rubbish lying around.

On the day before we left we had to have a gear check, and the day before the preparation was super easy because I had all the gear that was required and I could find all my gear easily.

We went to Lake Daniell, Lake Daniell is about 5 minutes past Springs Junction heading towards the Lewis Pass. We went on Wednesday the 9th of September and it was fun because Cooper and I had a pretend fight on the way there and on the way back and Cooper won both times.

I travelled with Flynn, Nathan, Cooper and Craig Swinburn and we walked with the rest of the class. We did the Lake Daniell tramp because it was one of our William Pike outdoor activities. I like the William Pike challenge because it gives us plenty of opportunities to get outside and try new things.

The hut we walked to is called Kohanga Atawhai - Manson Nicholls Hut. The track is in the Southern Alps. This tramp was a spring walk.

I really enjoyed being able to go out and enjoy the wilderness for the William Pike Challenge again because we haven't been able to get out much because of Covid-19. I also really enjoyed being able to go tramping with my friends and have a laugh.

I didn’t like it when I sprained my ankle because it hurt so bad and I had to go to the hospital and get an X-Ray to make sure it wasn’t broken. I also didn’t like it when my heels started hurting on the way back and they hurt so bad.

I really appreciated the parents giving up their time to come out and provide transport for our tramp and also participating in the tramp, I also really appreciated the people that made sure I was okay when I sprained my ankle.

I wonder how many steps the children and adults have completed when they combine their steps together? I also wonder how many Long Tailed Bats live in the beech forest around Lake Daniell?
